Law 263-2006 recognizes vocational and career evaluation for students with disabilities receiving special education. Results should inform services and goals rather than remain in a file without team discussion.

What Article 7 provides

At age 12, an initial preliminary vocational evaluation addresses skills, interests, aptitudes, limitations, functional abilities, and placement options, considering assistive technology. Article 7 then provides annual complete vocational evaluation and consultation before placement in an academic-vocational school or program of interest and according to individual need.

Using the results

Request the report, discussion, and a clear connection between findings and IEP transition goals and activities. A Vocational Rehabilitation referral must include evaluation results. The law also addresses vocational screening and skills certification for students leaving special education without a high-school diploma.

Questions for the team

When was my child evaluated and who interpreted the results? What real-world experiences and supports are needed? How are preferences reflected? If evaluation is missing or a pathway is proposed without sufficient data, request clarification and a documented decision. We can assess compliance using the reports and IEP.

The answer for your situation depends on the facts and records. An inquiry does not suspend legal deadlines or guarantee that the office will accept the case.
