It is a mechanism for recognized services the DEPR cannot provide promptly. It does not replace the procedure for deciding entitlement to a disputed service. The official office portal provides guidance and contact information.
Request and evidence
The 2019 operational rules address evaluations, reevaluations, therapies, assistive-technology evaluation, nursing, and aides. Article 6.1 provides for requests with documents establishing the service obligation. Prepare the referral, IEP or relevant determination, and evidence of unavailability.
Response and approval
Article 6.1 specifies twenty days for a response and rules about receipt dates. If there is no response, request status and document delay; do not treat silence as spending authorization. If approved, examine services, frequency, provider, and conditions. The article allows 90 days after approval to coordinate contracting.
Before contracting
Confirm the current submission channel and required documents with the office. Avoid relying on email addresses copied from older forms. Authorization should correspond to the service to be contracted. We can review a denial, delay, or IEP discrepancy.
Distinguish RP, independent evaluation, and compensation
An IEE addresses disagreement with an agency evaluation; RP concerns availability of recognized services; compensatory education remedies past deprivation. A compensatory-services plan also differs from a private-school equitable-services plan. The document’s content and purpose matter more than its abbreviation.
The answer for your situation depends on the facts and records. An inquiry does not suspend legal deadlines or guarantee that the office will accept the case.
