What does proving causation mean?

Medical malpractice · Rights and concepts

It is not enough to identify potentially deficient care followed by harm. There must be a sufficient connection between the challenged act or omission and the claimed injury.

An expert considers the clinical course and alternative explanations, including prior illness, procedural risks, or later events. Records before and after the main event can be as important as that day's records.

Identify all related providers and dates without assuming the last professional to see the patient is responsible. A complete investigation considers information both supporting and contradicting the initial concern.

The answer for your situation depends on the facts and records. An inquiry does not suspend legal deadlines or guarantee that the office will accept the case.
